he 2026 Asian Games will be hosted by Japan's Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya City, the prefectural capital, and is scheduled to open on September 19. Aichi Prefecture is located in the central part of Japan's main island and is known as an industrial production center where companies such as Toyota Motor Company and Nagoya Railway are located. Nagoya City is the prefectural capital of Aichi Prefecture and is home to over 2.3 million people, making it the third most populous and fourth largest city in Japan. Nagoya, located in the middle of the Japanese archipelago, serves as the most important transportation hub in Japan and is a center of history and industry.

It has been 32 years since the Asian Games were held in Japan in 1994 in Hiroshima. As the Asian Games, which had 34 sports in 1994, has now expanded to 40 sports and 482 sports, expectations are high for the new sports that will be held in Aichi-Nagoya. The journey of the newly established e-sports event in Hangzhou is expected to continue from Aichi to Nagoya.

Nagoya City has several tourist attractions in addition to Nagoya Castle. There are tourist elements that can be seen from the past to the present, such as Inuyama City's Monkey Park, Nagoya City Science Museum, Legoland Japan, and the Maneki Neko Museum. And there are three beautiful remote islands. Among them, Himakajima, the closest to Nagoya, is a small island with a circumference of 5.5km and can be enjoyed leisurely for a day. It takes about an hour and a half from Nagoya and can be reached by transferring between trains and high-speed boats. There are ports where regular flights depart and arrive on the west and east sides of the island, and there are many Instagrammable spots such as cafes and rental bicycles nearby. ‘Himakajima Island’ also appeared in the drama ‘Lonely Gourmet (drama)’.

If you climb the stairs to Sunrise Beach, about 10 minutes from the eastern port, there is a swing hanging from a tree facing the sea. It is a scenic spot on Himakajima called 하이디의 그네. If you ride the swing with the feeling of returning to childhood, you can capture the island scenery and blue sea at a glance.

Himakajima is also known as a treasure trove of seafood. Octopus and pufferfish are especially famous, and one boiled octopus is available all year round. It is frozen once and then boiled, so it has a soft texture. Cute octopuses welcome you all over the island, including buildings and monuments shaped like octopuses. There are also lodging facilities such as bed and breakfasts and inns. We recommend waking up early at Sunrise Beach because you can see the morning sun rising on the horizon.
