K Food Show, the land of soup! A Korean meal begins with a spoonful of soup. From soups, stews, stews, and hot pots, Koreans are serious about ‘soup’! What on earth does ‘soup’ mean to Koreans? Part 1 <Soup Journey>. A soup trip of three gourmets to the famous city of soup!
The first city is Jeju! Jeju has developed a unique soup that cannot be found on the mainland. Due to Jeju's geographical characteristics as an island, fish soup has been made with freshly caught tilefish and cutlassfish since ancient times, and on days when village feasts are held, domestic pigs are slaughtered and boiled and eaten as body soup. Jeju's traditional feast, which lasts for a week, begins with slaughtering a pig and ends with sharing body soup. Mom soup, made with seaweed and boiled in abundance, is a food of wisdom that can be shared by all villagers in the barren land of Jeju.
The second destination of the soup trip is Tongyeong, a city made up of 570 islands. Thanks to the many islands, a unique food culture using fresh seafood has developed... Three gourmets prepare and taste Tongyeong sea food, including flounder seaweed soup and salted fish soup made with mussels.
How did Koreans start eating soup, an essential part of their meals? Let's go in search of the taste of traditional Korean soup with 5,000 years of history. We meet with an expert in restored cuisine from the Joseon Dynasty and learn about the origins of Korean soups, including the pinnacle of splendor, Yeolgujatang and the now-extinct Nathantangbyeong. Let’s fall in love with Korea’s beautiful ocean scenery and the stories of soups that are uniquely developed in each city!
The K-food craze is sweeping the world! Part 1 of the K-food show ‘Nation of Soup’, the journey of Korean food that we didn’t know about, will be aired worldwide through KBS2 and global OTT Netflix from 21:25 on Sunday, October 22.
