South Korea has participated in the Olympics since the 1948 Summer Olympics and hosted the 1988 Summer Olympics, winning 12 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and 11 bronze medals in this competition, ranking 4th overall.
At the Olympics, archery, shooting, table tennis, badminton, short track, handball, judo, taekwondo, and weightlifting are the sports in which Korea is strong, and in the last 20 summer Olympics, with the exception of the Sydney Olympics, Korea has ranked in the top 10 overall in medals. .
South Korea also hosted the 1986 Asian Games and the 2002 Asian Games, and won six gold medals in short track, speed skating, and figure skating at the 2010 Winter Olympics, finishing fifth overall.
