Coffee is a part of daily life in this day and age. When I'm tired, drinking a refreshing cup of Americano can help me wake up. Americano, as we know, increases concentration and vitality. In addition, it burns fat in the body and excretes waste through its diuretic effect. It improves efficiency during aerobic exercise, is rich in polyphenols, helps maintain blood vessel health, and can prevent brain diseases by lowering the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's. However, be careful because too much of anything can cause side effects.

I enjoy coffee, but I don't know much about it.

So, I want to know more about coffee. These days, many people enjoy handmade coffee at home.

I think it would be interesting to make the coffee I want using a coffee machine.

I tend to enjoy savory coffee.

In which country is savory coffee grown? What is the variety? This is a store I always eat at, but why does the taste change?

I would like to answer my questions one by one. If I make my own coffee, what do I need to know first?

Easy?! Difficult? There are many home coffee machines. There are a variety of methods, including simple capsule coffee machines, espresso machines, drip coffee makers, and hand drip (brewing).

First, let’s learn about the types of home cafe machines.

Capsule coffee machine, You make coffee by inserting a capsule containing coffee beans and adding hot water. At the press of a button, hot water flows through the pod and brews a cup of coffee. It's cheap and versatile, so it's easy to use. You can enjoy various brands of coffee.

As the ‘home cafe’ culture of enjoying coffee at home spreads, the demand for capsule coffee machines is increasing. Accordingly, on the 25th, the Korea Consumer Agency announced the results of a test evaluation of 10 capsule coffee machine products from major brands with high consumer preference. The research found that the price can be up to double the difference, and each product has different performance and quality, so you need to carefully consider the features you need before purchasing.

According to the Korea Consumer Agency, the product that takes the shortest time to brew a cup of espresso is Nescafe Dolce Gusto (model name 1023). It only took 50 seconds including the warm-up time after powering on. On the other hand, Illy (Y3.3 E&C) had the longest extraction time at 1 minute and 23 seconds.

The products with a consistent amount of coffee extraction were Nescafe Dolce Gusto and Medipresso (MEDI-CNTM02). For both products, the extraction amount per cup was uniform when brewing once, and the extraction amount was also consistent when brewing the second cup following the first cup.

There was no significant difference in the noise level of the 10 products, around 60dB (decibel). 60 dB is the noise level of a normal conversation or car. Among the products investigated, the product with the lowest noise was Illy (57dB). The product with the loudest noise was found to be Nescafe Dolce Gusto (64dB).

While most capsule coffee machines can only use their own capsules or one type of capsule, Himade (HCF-HC60GR) can use Nespresso or Nescafe Dolce Gusto capsules. Himade and Boman (CM2140B) can also be brewed with ground coffee beans, depending on the type of tray provided.

Meanwhile, the most expensive product among the 10 products was Nespresso (D30) at 179,000 won, and the cheapest product was Xiaomi's SCISHARE (S1301) at 99,800 won.

Drip coffee makers, coffee makers in which ground coffee beans are extracted through a filter, are the most common and widely used type. Water in the water tank drips onto the grinding wand and enters the container through the filter. Drip coffee makers are simple and convenient because they can dispense a large amount of coffee at once.

A drip coffee maker is a tool that combines the beauty of traditional coffee brewing methods with modern convenience. Drip coffee maters have many advantages, including ease of use, consistent taste, and ocean manufacturing possibilities. However, it also has some drawbacks, such as lack of flavor variety and limited control possibilities. In this blog, we have detailed the main pros and cons of drip coffee makers.

hand dripIt is a method of filtering coffee by pouring water directly into the ground coffee beans by hand. All you need is a paper filter and a ‘dripper’ to support the paper filter, so it is inexpensive and easy to get started with. It also has the advantage of being less bitter and having a smoother taste than coffee made with a drip machine.

What is hand drip? The dictionary definition states that 'after roasting, the coffee is ground or ground and filtered while pouring water directly by hand.' Simply put, coffee that is extracted by hand rather than using a machine is called hand drip coffee. The minimum tools for hand drip coffee are a coffee grinder, dripper, drip filter, server, drip pot, electric pot, scale, stopwatch, and thermometer.

[Terminology] Brewing, hand drip, pour over

*Source_Tistory MONG-DAILY

Brewing is a series of processes for making coffee and can be said to be a different extraction method from espresso.

Espresso is a method of extracting ingredients by applying strong pressure at high temperature in a short period of time, but brewing is a method of extracting coffee by pouring water into coffee powder and filtering it through a filter or steeping the coffee powder. Brewing is a filtration method in which water passes through coffee powder and is extracted, and a method in which water is extracted by soaking or boiling coffee powder is called a leaching method.

Hand drip is an extraction method that came from Japan and is generally known as a standardized method of dispensing with a delicate stream of water. This is a method brought over from Japan, which placed emphasis on individual extraction techniques.

Pour Over is an extraction method commonly used in countries such as the United States, Europe, and Australia. It is a convenient method of pouring water without being tied to a specific method. Although it does not emphasize the delicacy of the water stream like hand drip, it is an extraction method that pours a calculated amount of water so that the coffee beans contained in the dripper can sufficiently leach.

There are different terms for coffee extraction, such as brewing, hand drip, and pour over, but the way they are called varies depending on the vocabulary in each country, but the overall concept is the same.

Coffee brewing refers to hand drip coffee.

The advantage of coffee brewing is that the coffee tastes clean.

It has a much cleaner taste than Americano made with espresso. The reason is because filter coffee is extracted using a filter, so things like coffee grounds do not come out and enter the coffee we drink. Espresso is made by squeezing water under pressure. However, I think it is correct to say that brewing is like brewing. The taste varies greatly depending on the shape of the dripper, the type and shape of the filter, and the amount and speed of pouring water.

The downside to brewing is that it can be more cumbersome than espresso. The grinding of the coffee beans must also be coarser than that of espresso, and there is a big difference in taste depending on the thickness. In addition, you need to prepare a server, dripper, and filter paper, and use a drip pot to heat it to the right temperature. It also takes more time than espresso, and there is a big difference in concentration. Above all, it is said to have a higher caffeine content than espresso.

There are various drippers for brewing (hand drip) that have these pros and cons, the most basic of which are Hario, Kalita, Melita, Kono, and Yung drip.

I think I gained a lot of information to start making coffee. It may be cheap or expensive, but it seems to require skills. There are many barista academies, and it is said that you can learn enough in about a month.

I need to sign up for an academy and start learning the basics.

Even if it's not latte skill, I'm really curious about the skill that determines the taste of coffee when making it. I'm looking forward to it.

While looking for information of interest, I found a place that made me look forward to it.

I think I got a lot of information and rankings of major playgrounds.
